Cold Laser and Low-Level Light Therapy in Santa Barbara

For my patients who want to heal FAST!

Low-Level Light Therapy uses targeted wavelengths of light to produce a photochemical response without the heat or cutting associated with surgical lasers.

At Alki Wellness, Dr. Marc Grandle offers quick, noninvasive light therapy sessions independently or alongside other services as part of an individualized approach.

Low-Level Light Therapy, Cold Laser Therapy and Photobiomodulation

You may hear this type of treatment called Low-Level Light Therapy, Low-Level Laser Therapy, cold laser therapy or photobiomodulation.

These terms are frequently used interchangeably because they describe the same general therapeutic approach: applying low-intensity light without the tissue-heating effect of surgical lasers.

The terminology can vary depending on the equipment. Some systems use lasers, some use LEDs and others combine different light sources. Photobiomodulation is the broader scientific term, while cold laser therapy is a name many patients recognize.

At Alki Wellness, we refer to the service as Low-Level Light Therapy, or LLLT.

How Low-Level Light Therapy Works

Photobiomodulation uses specific wavelengths of visible and/or near-infrared light to interact with light-sensitive components inside cells.

Light is applied directly to the area being addressed without incisions, injections or the heat associated with surgical lasers.

Targeted Light

Cellular Response

The light interacts with components inside the cells, including the mitochondria responsible for producing cellular energy. This process helps cells function more efficiently in the treated area.

Recovery Support

By supporting cellular activity, LLLT helps reduce inflammation and discomfort while promoting tissue repair, mobility and physical recovery.
